The pro-actively oriented 14th annual Central European logistics and transportation congress EASTLOG 2011 again attracted hundreds of logistics professionals. Held May 26-27, 2011 at Prague’s TOP Hotel, it offered several program sections geared toward a variety of logistics fields and registered a 12% increase in attendance compared to the previous year. Each attendee could choose the logistics area most important for his/her business and gain valuable market information. The Logistics Trends Forum this year focused on supply chain strategies, transportation developments, and transparency. The Suppliers Innovation Forum provided practical experience and the latest developments from partners and representatives of the logistics embassies. The program also included the specialist workshops Meeting of Transporters and Haulers and Effective Warehouse Management. As with past congresses, all logistics professionals met and mingled in the central location, the Business Arena. The 14th Central European EASTLOG Congress has come to a close, and the interest from the logistics profession was enormous. The congress’s organizer, ATOZ EVENT, once again succeeded in bringing the leading professionals on the logistics market to participate in a rich and varied program. A large number of upper managers from companies providing logistics services joined representatives of equipment and service providers to the logistics sector. The group most well represented was again logistics managers from manufacturers and commercial enterprises. They showed especial interest in the presentations of new technologies and approaches that were part of the Suppliers Innovation Forum as well as the Logistics Trends Forum conference, which offered lectures and panel discussions on current topics affecting supply chains this year. The congress organizers chose to focus this year on the fast-moving consumer goods sector, which proved to be a far-sighted decision. The total number of attendees of the daily program was 12% higher than the previous year. The Logistics Business Mixer in the evening was attended by 32% more logistics professionals than the previous year’s mixer. The thematic focus of EASTLOG 2011 mirrored the concerns of the logistics market and supply chains. “The selected topics, headed by the creation of supply chain strategies, attracted a large number of logistics professionals. This fact gives me the confidence to state that we again were able to identify the issues currently relevant to the logistics sector. Attendance was much higher than last year and exceeded our expectations,” commented after the congress Jaroslav Smisek, logistics group manger for ATOZ EVENT, the congress organizer. “The changes made in the conception of the congress as it has evolved, such as partners giving thematic presentations and relocating them to the Business Arena, contributed to the high level of attendance and satisfaction of the companies who used the congress to present their services and products.” THE BUSINESS ARENA, SUPPLIERS INNOVATION FORUM, MEETING OF TRANSPORTERS AND HAULERSThe modern, open space of the congress center at TOP HOTEL PRAGUE served as home to the Business Arena, where leading providers of logistics services and equipment suppliers presented their products and services to visitors. Gold partners CTP Invest and CHEP CZ were joined by three silver partners and a wide spectrum of bronze partners and representatives of the logistics embassies: a total of 22 partners exhibited in the Business Arena. This year, development companies had a strong presence, and compared to last year the number of logistics companies significantly increased. The Suppliers Innovation Forum was held in the central area of the EASTLOG Congress in the Business Arena, and it provided the latest information on projects and plans of the companies exhibiting in the Business Arena. The half-day workshop Transport and Haulers Meeting addressed issues concerning intermodal transportation and the importance of European ports. The program was sponsored by BOHEMIAKOMBI.LOGISTICS TRENDS FORUM – FOCUS ON FMCGNow that the global economic situation seems to have stabilized after a recession, many companies are addressing their future supply chain needs. This became the central topic of EASTLOG 2011, so it was logical that it was central to the Logistics Trends Forum conference as well. Another sector currently worrying logistics managers is freight transport where the situation has gradually turned in favor of haulers. Haulers, however, have not completely recovered from the crisis and moreover are plagued by other problems, such as a recurring shortage of drivers. This led to an interesting discussion on what the future might hold. The third topic was supply chain transparency. Although the level of transparency does directly affect supply chain efficiencies, it has to be admitted that logistics in Central Europe lag in this area. EASTLOG delivered an interesting debate on technologies for information and data sharing and particularly on what present barriers exist that inhibit greater supply chain transparency. An EASTLOG delegate could anticipate nine sections in the congress’s main program. A total of 15 speakers delivered to the nearly three hundred logistics professionals attending the Logistics Trends Forum invaluable information and inspiration for their own work. The professional sponsor for the program was again this year the working group of The Club of Logistics Managers, composed of four top-level logistics experts (JAN HYŤHA, Managing Director NAGEL ČESKO, PETR JIRUTKA, owner Profi Management, LIBOR LINKE, executive director COMBITRADING, and TOMAS NOVOTNY, regional director CTP). HOW TO EFFECTIVELY MANAGE A WAREHOUSEOne of the accompanying sections of the congress was the second year of the Effective Warehouse Management workshop. Participants in the workshop exchanged practical experience and tips on how to efficiently and safely run a warehouse. Whoever missed this program lost an opportunity to pick up valuable information and tips from knowledgeable, practicing professionals in such a dynamic field, such as warehouse picking methods, how identification technologies impact warehouse efficiency, certification, and safety practices in warehouse operations. One presentation was devoted to minimizing battery expenses for handling equipment.THE LOGISTICS BUSINESS MIXER, VISIT TO LOGISTICS CENTERThe Logistics Business Mixer closed the first day of the congress by welcoming guest to Top Hotel’s Brewery Restaurant. This VIP event is traditionally a unique opportunity for logistics professionals to combine networking with fun. Attendees enjoyed themselves in the informal atmosphere of contests, exclusive wine tasting, good food and drink, and mainly a excellent mood. The high attendance of logistics managers of manufacturers and commercial companies, including the retail chains, was capitalized on by logistics service and equipment providers to make new contacts. The event’s general partner was PointPark Properties. The Visit to Logistics Centers offered the opportunity to witness the operations of several leading companies. EASTLOG delegates could choose one of two visits. The first was to ProLogis Úzice, where visitors could see the operations of a Rossmann distribution center and an Antalis production warehouse. The second was to CTPark Bor, which invited visitors into the warehouses of Tech Data Distribution and LOXXESS Bor.The EASTLOG Congress enjoyed the great support of partners from the ranks of logistics services and products providers. Gold partners were again the year CTP and CHEP. Silver partners: COGNEX, Cushman & Wakefield, PointPark Properties. Bronze partners: GX Solution, ERSTE Group Immorent, GSI distribution, MECALUX Czech Republic, PROMAN, Quantum Software, Mixed Chamber of Commerce Czech Republic–Netherlands, Czech – Neth Business Support (CNBS), Raben Group, Tyros Loading Systems, Yusen Logistics, Wincor Nixdorf.
